Family World History - Ancient

Hello Family World History club members.  Our first club date is Sept. 7 from 3:00 - 4:00.  I'm looking forward to seeing you then.  The dates we are scheduled to meet are: 9/7, 9/21, 10/5, 10/19, 11/2, 11/16.

To prepare for the first day, each club member is expected to have an Ancient History Portfolio Junior, colored pencils, pencils with erasers, scissors, and glue sticks.  These will be the basic supplies which should be brought to each club meeting.

I will be at the park meeting at 10:00 on Aug. 24 and will bring Portfolios with for families to purchase, with a 10% "family and friends" discount.  However, if you cannot attend, and want your Portfolio before the first day, just let me know and we can arrange something for another day.  I live in Lisle, and you could drop by and pick up your book.  Otherwise, I will simply bring your Portfolio to the first meeting on Set. 7.  Our work in the Portfolio does not begin with the first page in the Portfolio.  We'll begin on pages 4 and 5.

Following is the description of the Family World History Club for 7 - 10 year olds.

This two semester family class will creatively explore ancient China, the Near East, Egypt, Greece, and Rome.  Each day, we will read aloud from various sources, work as a group to compose a group "narration" of the story, play games to help memorize a collection of timeline dates, and build a page in the History Portfolio Junior. Occasionally a special project will replace one of the activities.  No specific homework will be required, but it is assumed that families enrolled will be continuing their studies of ancient history at home, completing the Portfolio Junior pages not scheduled to be completed in class.  A detailed syllabus will be provided.  A link to purchase the materials will be available upon registration."

A full detailed syllabus for the year is available by clicking on the files tab on this page.

Also, in the files section, find a list of timeline dates we will attempt to work on as time allows.  I will come to the club meetings with a set of the cards printed up, for us to play games with.  You can print your own to work on at home, but it is not required.  They are just there for your convenience.

If you have any questions, let me know.  My email address is [email protected].  I'll see you at the park on the 24th, and again on the first day of Family World History!

Senior World History - Ancient

August 25, 2011

Hello Senior World History club members.  Our first club meeting is on August 31!  This semester, our club dates are: 8/31, 9/14, 9/28, 10/12, 10/26, 11/9.

To be prepared for our club meetings, please bring your Portfolio, Teacher's Guide, and Full Color Maps with you. Plus, you'll need colored pencils, pencils with erasers, scissors, and glue sticks, and a regular, wide-ruled, composition book for note-taking and rough drafts of the reports we'll be working on during the meetings. These will be the basic supplies which should be brought to each club meeting.

I will be at the park meeting at 10:00 on Aug. 24 and will bring the Portfolios, Teacher's Guides, and Maps, which your family can purchase with a 10% "family and friends" discount.  However, if you cannot attend, and want your books before the first day, just let me know and we can arrange something for another day.  I live in Lisle, and you could drop by and pick up your books.  Otherwise, I will simply bring your Portfolio to the first meeting on Aug. 31.  Our work in the Portfolio does not begin with the first page in the Portfolio.  We'll begin on pages 4 and 5.

Following is the description of the Family World History Club for ages 10 - 13.

This two semester class will, through writing and reporting, study ancient China, the Near East, Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Each day we will read aloud from various sources and discuss significant topics, work together on various writing projects, and complete a page or more in the Ancient History Portfolio. To prepare for class, each student will need to read an assigned short chapter from a free online source, and highlight or take notes on that source.  It is assumed that families enrolled will be continuing their studies of ancient history at home, completing the Portfolio pages not scheduled to be completed in class.  A detailed syllabus will be provided indicating which Portfolio pages and topics will be covered in class, and which pages may be completed at home.

A full detailed syllabus for the year is available by clicking on the files tab on this page.

Also, in the files section, find a list of timeline dates we will attempt to work on as time allows.  You can print your own to work on at home, but it is not required.  They are just there as an extra resource.
